In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell posits that greatness in any field requires not necessarily an innate talent or genius but rather 10,000 hours of practice. We can all be concert pianists or pro golfers--or at least pretty darn awesome--by the time we've spent approximately 10,000 hours honing our craft. Clearly, I'm on my way to Olympic glory in the dressage ring. Only 9,990 hours to go.
As an increasingly avid cyclist, I will sign onto this program. I've spent approximately 10 hours in the saddle (on my bike) in the last 6 days alone. I like to think that the only difference between me and Lance Armstrong is 9,990 measly hours.
